Onboarding Program Launches in Division of Business Services

On July 9, 2018, a comprehensive onboarding program was introduced for all new academic and university employees in the Division of Business Services. Onboarding is the year-long process of “integrating and acculturating new employees into the organization and providing them with the tools, resources, and knowledge to become successful and productive.”

The divisional program was developed in accordance with requirements outlined in the UW-Madison Onboarding Policy. Key elements of the program include:

  • Training/orientation for hiring supervisors/onboarding coordinators
  • Tools for hiring supervisors/onboarding coordinators
    • Onboarding checklist
    • 30-day learning plan template
    • Systems access directory/checklist (in development)
    • Email templates
  • Welcome folders containing essential organizational and policy information
  • Division of Business Services New Employee Orientation sessions offered monthly
  • Quarterly “Meet & Greets” for all new employees and representatives from all departments
  • Support and program administration/maintenance provided by Content Management, Communication and Training

Three additional components of the Division of Business Services’ Onboarding Program will be introduced by January 1, 2019:

  1. An onboarding evaluation process
  2. A peer partner program
  3. A similar orientation program designed expressly for student employees

All supervisors in the division are asked to notify Dawn Rekoske (dawn.rekoske@wisc.edu) or Amy Wilson (amy.wilson@wisc.edu) at least one month prior to starting a new employee so the onboarding process can be initiated. Any questions/feedback can also be directed to Dawn or Amy.
